Sourdough Cream Cheese Brownies

Ingredients

Chocolate Batter:

  • 1 stick butter 8 tbsps
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 1/4 cup sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1/2 cup sourdough starter fed or discard
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/4 salt
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda

Cream Cheese Batter:

  • 1 pkg cream cheese 8 oz
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F.
  • In a small saucepan, melt 1 cup chocolate chips with 1 stick of butter and 1 + 1/4 cup sugar.
  • In your kitchen aid mixing bowl add 3 eggs, 2 tbsp oil, and 1/2 cup sourdough starter. Whisk on medium speed for about 2 minutes.
  • In a separate mixing bowl, add 1/2 cup flour, 1/2 cup cocoa powder, 1/4 tsp baking soda, 1/4 tsp salt, and 1 tsp baking powder. Whisk together.
  • Once the melted butter and chocolate chips have cooled. Add it into the wet ingredients and whisk to create a creamy smooth mixture.
  • Then add in the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix.
  • Leave 1 cup of chocolate batter on the side.
  • Pour the rest of the chocolate batter into a 9x13 baking pan lined with parchment paper.
  • Next in your kitchen aid mixing bowl add 1 package cream cheese, 1/3 cup sugar, 1 egg, and 1/2 tsp vanilla.
  • Mix well for 2 minutes until smooth and creamy.
  • Pour over the chocolate batter in blotches.
  • Then add the remaining 1 cup of chocolate batter over the cream cheese in blotches.
  • With a knife make the swirl. Do not over mix or it will become one batter color.
  • Bake for 50-60 mins. Or until a toothpick or a knife comes out clean right in the middle.
  • Remove from the baking pan, cut, and serve.
