The best sandwich is always with homemade sourdough bread. Rustic sourdough bread combined with the classic ham and cheese, with some lettuce and mayo make an ultimate homemade lunch. Let’s make some mouthwatering Sourdough Ham and Cheese Sandwich.

Tools you might need:

Ingredients:

  • Sourdough bread
  • High-quality ham slices
  • Bacon (optional)
  • Favorite cheese (cheddar, Swiss, or Colby)
  • Dijon mustard
  • Mayonnaise
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • Salt
  • Lettuce
  • Onion
  • Pickles or banana peppers
  • Tomatoes (optional)

Directions:

  1. Prepare the Sourdough Bread: If you have homemade sourdough bread, slice it to your desired thickness. The rustic, tangy flavor of sourdough will add a delightful twist to your sandwich.
  2. Create the Spread: Mix equal parts Dijon mustard and mayonnaise in a small bowl. This tangy and creamy spread will add a zesty kick to your sandwich.
  3. Fry the Ham and Cheese: On a frying pan, on low to medium heat fry ham with cheese in the middle. (ham, cheese, ham) on both sides.
  4. Fry the bacon: Making sure the bacon is extra crispy.
  5. Apply the Spread: Evenly spread the Dijon-mayo mixture on both slices of sourdough bread. This will add a creamy texture and enhance the overall flavor.
  6. Assemble the sandwich: On one slice, add the fried ham and cheese with bacon. On the other side add lettuce, tomato, pickles or banana peppers, onions salt and pepper. Press the two halves together to form a sandwich.
  7. Optional Additions: You can add pretty much anything else you have on hand or crave on your sandwich. Olives, arugula, or jalapeños.
  8. Serve and Enjoy: Serve with your favorite side or enjoy it on its own. I love eating some sort of chips on the side of my sandwiches.
