Poppy seed filling is a sweet and nutty flavored filling that can be used to make cookies or poppy seed rolls. It’s actually a lot easier to make than it seems.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups poppy seeds
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter (half a stick of butter)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • pinch of salt
  • 2 farm fresh eggs beaten

How to make poppy seed filling

  1. In a sauce pan melt the butter, sugar, milk, and salt on medium heat.
  2. Once all of ingredients in the sauce pan and well incorporated. Turn the heat on low and whisk in 2 beaten eggs. Make sure you mix fast because the eggs could turn into scrambled eggs. Mixing 2 beaten eggs into the melted butter and milk mixture for poppy seed filling.
  3. On medium- low heat, keep whisking until the mixture turns thicker, more like a custard. A whisk in an egg, milk, butter, sugar, salt mixture for poppy seed filling.
  4. Once you feel and see how it has thickened up. Turn the heat off and add in your poppy seeds. Mix well. It will become thicker as it cools. Poppy seed filling.
  5. Once cooled, keep in the fridge. Or start baking!
