Homemade sweetened condensed milk is a delightful ingredient that adds a creamy richness to various desserts and treats such as my Tres Leches Cake- The Best Cake You Ever Had! You can add it as a sweetened creamer to your coffee, or make London fog tea.
It’s convenient to run to the store to buy some condensed milk, but you have to be very careful and read the back because sometimes they add palm oil. Other times you will read that they use bioengineered ingredients. This recipe is super simple with only 2 natural ingredients – raw milk and raw honey!
Sweetened condensed milk is made by reducing the water content in regular milk and sweetening it. The result is a thick, sticky, and sweet liquid that is commonly used in recipes like cake, ice creams, coffee, and even as a topping for pancakes or toast.
Using honey as a sweetener in homemade sweetened condensed milk adds a unique twist to the traditional recipe. Honey brings its own distinct flavor and natural sweetness, which complements various desserts perfectly. Additionally, honey is often considered a healthier alternative to refined sugar due to its potential health benefits and natural properties.

Tools you may need:
- Heavy Bottom Pot (Dutch oven)
- Measuring cup
- Silicone Stir Spoon
- Mason Jar
Ingredients:
- 3 cups Raw milk (or any whole milk)
- 1 cup Raw honey (or you can replace for sugar if you must)
Directions:
- In a dutch oven or any heavy bottom saucepan, combine the milk and honey over medium heat. Stir well to ensure the honey is fully incorporated into the milk.
- Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer while stirring constantly. Be careful not to let it boil.
- Reduce the heat to low and continue simmering the mixture for about 45-60 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent the mixture from sticking to the bottom of the pan.
- As the mixture cooks, it will gradually thicken and reduce in volume. Keep a close eye on it to ensure it doesn’t scorch.
- After 45-60 minutes of simmering, the mixture should have thickened significantly, resembling the consistency of condensed milk – slightly thinner than the store, it will become thicker the next day after being refrigerated. The color will start to change to more of a cream color. Remove the saucepan from the heat.
- Pour the condensed milk into a mason jar and allow the sweetened condensed milk to cool down to room temperature.
- Once cooled, transfer to the fridge. It can be kept in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
Now you have sweetened condensed milk ready to use.
Note: If you use sugar the final results will be light cream color like the store, if you use honey the end results will be darker cream color more like dulce.

Just so you understand that when you heat honey this hot you kill the honey healthy benefits.
It doesnt affect the taste or the sweetness.
Yes I agree, but I would still choose to add honey vs sugar.
