If you bought or are planning on buying a raw piece of property you must take a count for the up front investments. Remember to think food, shelter, and water.

- Water is the most important. Because in order to grow your own food you need water. In order to have a shower you need water. Drilling a well is 20+k. We made a shallow well, it has been working for us amazing. You don’t worry about not having enough water for shower, for washing the dishes, and for watering the trees. When we first moved off grid we had to cart water in. That was hard because it’s a time consuming chore.View this post on InstagramView this post on Instagram
- Shelter is a MUST wether you brought a travel trailer with you or are setting up a yurt. In our experience we came with a travel trailer and quickly built a tiny house. We prefer structures vs trailers. It feels so good to be in an actual structure even though it’s small, it’s warm and cozy and gives us some shelter. Do not build a tiny house less than 200sq ft. In 200sq ft you can easily have it functioning as in toilet, shower, kitchen, and sleeping area.

Therefore you must connect with your community like I mentioned in my Stay Connected blog post and find local eggs, milk, meat. Remember to buy in bulk if you have the storage for it. Once you make your root cellar, that would be ideal for storing foods! Our first year we grew only a few tomatoes in buckets. That was a start and our children loved eating the fresh tomatoes.View this post on Instagram
