Stepping Out Of My Comfort Zone

Overcoming fears is something every person has to go through at one point in their life. Getting out of your comfort zone is not easy and its a progress, doesn’t happen overnight. Instead of running away from it, you must face and conquer it.

I had a fear of cooking. I tried to run away from it for a long time. When I first got married 8 years ago, I did not know how to cook at all, even the basics like oatmeal or fried egg. Why was I afraid of cooking? I was afraid of spices including salt. I didn’t know how to use them. I was so afraid of adding them to my food only because I had a sense of the unknown. Therefore I ate bland boring foods. It was a long learning process. I slowly started adding herbs then garlic. Then I started adding new spices like oregano, Italian seasonings, rosemary. Once you start adding new spices, you start liking them. My husband was always telling me what could be better and he was there for my failed cooking and for my good cooking. Im still learning!

On the same note, I was afraid of inviting people and serving them my food. I was afraid they would not like my food or I would serve something wrong. Even though it was out of my comfort zone, I still served people. Once I served a rock hard cake that I made for my daughters birthday. Another time I served raw meat ( well I guess it could have passed for a rare steak :)). It was embarrassing but at the same time a learning progress. With time you learn what is best to serve, and become more confident how to serve it. Perseverance pays off.

When I was younger, I was not able to be free without makeup. I could never face anyone without makeup. I would act really weird if someone was talking to me when I had no makeup on. It was part of having low self esteem. I realized it was an issue so I forced myself to get out of my comfort zone and take a break from wearing makeup for 1 year. After that point I became flexible, I can be with or without makeup and comfortable around people. It was really hard at first, but gradually got easier and easier.

I took a break from social media for 7 years. When I came back I had to relearn everything. It was extremely out of my comfort zone. I didn’t go back to social media for fun, I had to help my husband for his business. I had a great time living without it, BUT along with helping my husband, I also started a blog. It was so out of my comfort zone but I had to face it. I put myself out there. If you don’t take risks, you will never know the outcome. Even if something fails, the important thing is that you took a risk. Every fail is only an opportunity to learn and grow.

Anyways to sum up, take risks, take steps out of your comfort zone. Live, learn, be free and happy. I learned a lot through other women, other blogs, and I hope my blog will be of some help to other younger women. I try to share the raw truth of life and tips how to overcome them. How to make life easier for busy moms and young wives.
