Moving off-grid can be an exciting and life-changing decision. It comes with an opportunity to live a more simpler lifestyle and more of a natural lifestyle by living so close to nature.  However this type of lifestyle comes with its own hardships. One of the most important things to keep in mind when starting any project, especially when moving off-grid, is the importance of completing each step before moving on to the next one.

step by step blocks

Finish what you start.

It can be tempting to want to skip steps or rush through a project in order to reach the end goal faster. However, this can often lead to problems down the road. If you don’t complete each step of a project thoroughly, you can end up having to start over from square one. When you start something and don’t bring it to completion, you train your brain to start believing that you aren’t capable of finishing anything. Which then leads to discouragement and you’re more likely of giving up.

For Example:

When we first moved off grid, we moved into our renovated travel trailer, but the trailer was not completly finished. The bathroom was not completed, the beds were not finished. We were excited and wanting the end results faster. This set us back, we were more stressed, we spent extra time having to go back and finish up our foam for the beds while living in there. It was not pretty and chaotic. At the end we sold the trailer without ever completing the project!

We learned our lesson, and this time around we try to do everything step by step without jumping over steps. Since we tried to jump over too many steps, we got burnt out, and ended up leaving our property for a little while. Now we have set new goals, new priorities, new steps and working our way back to live on the property again. We still go there since we live so close but we want to live there full time.

Why is it important to complete each step before starting a new project?

It’s important to finish each step of a project before starting a new one because rushing through or skipping steps can lead to mistakes, delays, and rework. When you move on to a new project without fully completing the previous one, you risk compromising the quality and functionality of your end product. This can be especially critical in off-grid living, where systems are interconnected and rely on each other to work correctly. Taking the time to complete each step thoroughly and double-checking your work can prevent future problems and save you time and money in the long run. Additionally, finishing each step before starting a new project can help you stay organized, focused, and motivated, ensuring that you don’t become overwhelmed or burn out. By completing one project at a time, you can build your skills, knowledge, and confidence, and create functional, sustainable systems that will serve you well.

Patience and perserverance.

Of course, completing each step of a project can be time-consuming and require patience and perseverance. It’s important to remember that moving off-grid is a lifestyle change, not just a quick fix. It may take longer to complete a project off-grid than it would in a traditional setting, but the end result will be worth it.

In conclusion.

When moving off-grid or starting any project, it’s important to take your time completing each step thoroughly before moving on to the next one. Skipping steps or rushing through a project can lead to costly mistakes. By being patient and diligent, you can create functional and sustainable off-grid systems that will serve you well for years to come.
